The green.ch group consists of two companies, Green Datacenter AG and green.ch AG. Green Datacenter AG is a data center provider and runs the data center business for the green.ch group; whereas green.ch AG is an Internet service provider and webhoster serving the private and business market. Green Datacenter AG provides data center services for mid-sized and large companies in Switzerland, Europe, and the world. Banks, insurance companies, system integrators, and technology companies are especially important customer segments for data center providers.
green.ch has its main office in Brugg and a branch office in Lonay. green.ch originated from the Internet service provider agri.ch, which was founded in 1995 as a provider and webhoster for private individuals and mid-sized companies in Switzerland. Today, with around 100 employees, green.ch is the largest hosted exchange provider, the second-largest webhoster, and the fifth largest Internet provider in Switzerland after Swisscom, Cablecom, Sunrise, and Orange. The data center provider business is continuing to gain in importance.
Between 1995 and 2009, green.ch acquired and expanded three data centers, the capacity of which has been reached. Therefore, in 2011, in Lupfig (Aargau) the data center provider built Switzerland’s first freestanding data center that is solely used for commercial purposes. The cost of the overall project is more than CHF 100 million.
The green.ch group is a privately run company that follows a sustainable, long-term, infrastructure-based investment dividend strategy. At the beginning of 2012, construction began on InnovationTower, a state-of-the-art six-level office building located next to the new greenDatacenter Zurich West in Lupfig. InnovationTower offers a relaxed campus atmosphere, with a ground-level restaurant, spacious grounds, and a well-designed landscape. The overall project maintains high ecological standards. A photovoltaic solar power plant is planned, and the waste heat from the data center will be used in InnovationTower. Emergency workplaces are also available in InnovationTower for data center customers of Green Datacenter AG.
